Mega mail art from Anna Jane Searle came through my letter box today and I kept pulling out goodies. I was especially delighted to receive some of her hand made buttons which she sells at: http://annarack.bigcartel.com/ and an altered book page. I also received some great stamps and cigarette cards which are pictured. Love the disney stamps and 2 New Zealand ones that make me more excited about going there this Sunday. The envelope, which was made from encyclopedia pages about space was sealed with some amazing planetary tape. There were also two smaller envelopes inside. A hand made one from a text book page about electricity and another one with prints of carousels on! <3

Mail art from Jessica Gowling. I can always count on Jess to send me awesome stickers like the one pictured and stuff that makes me smile like bizarre adverts selling squirrel monkey’s. I also never get tired of the awesome Canadian stamps on every letter I’ve received from her. The main feature though was a copy of her owl zine ‘Who? Hoo!’ that I have been meaning to buy for a while from her etsy shop.
Jessica also has a blog at: http://naturesmyfriend.wordpress.com/
I went to the artist book fair a while ago and made this purchase. A book by Elizabeth Willow called ‘The Birds of the British Isles and their Eggs’. I told myself I wouldn’t buy anything but I couldn’t resist it. It’s beautifully made, written and presented.
I bought the book wrapped in white tissue paper, tied with string and finished off with a feather. Now I can’t help but wrap it up in the same way every time I take it out and finish looking at it.
Elizabeth also experiments with flower-arranging, taxidermy, and installations among other things.
Snail mail from Jeannine Saylor all nautical with fishies and anchors. I mentioned how much I liked her watercolour fish and she was kind enough to send me a copy which looks even lovelier up close. I also received some cosmic decorations which now adorn my art storage box :) and another one that I have tied around my pencil pot. You can read Jeannine’s blog at: http://saylor-made.blogspot.co.uk/ (watch out for the mail art monday posts!)
My first mail art from Tess: I especially loved the dragonfly stamps and the page about mushrooms. Two of my favorite things to draw :) I also received some lovely yarn that i’m still thinking about what to do with. Check out her fashion/art blog at: http://fashionresister.blogspot.co.uk/
Clock watch, ca. 1600-1610
Movement by Michael Nouwen, or NouenThe hours, 1–12, are struck on a bell screwed to the interior of the case. The dial plate of Nouwen’s movement is made in two parts, an unusual feature that makes possible the separate removal of the wheels on one train of the watch without disturbing wheels of the other. The balance and the verge of the watch’s escapement are later replacements. The female figure in the center of the dial, reminiscent of Flemish personifications of Summer, wears a crown of grain stalks and carries a cornucopia in her right arm. The chapter ring is engraved with the hours (I–XII), the half hours are marked with stars, and there are touch pins at the hour to enable the user to tell the time in darkness.
